At VDS, we’ve created a holistic competitive dance curriculum for children aged 7 and up, designed to prepare them both physically and emotionally before stepping into competitions.
As a new school, we leverage on the expertise of allied health practitioners to show that we are serious about protecting our young dancers and making decisions based on evidence not just tradition, moving away from “more classes, faster progress,” and instead nurturing steady growth.

Research shows that a dance medicine and developmental approach nurtures resilient, healthy, and independent individuals, helping them sustain their love for dance while leading a full, vibrant life. In this supportive setting, children can train with confidence and balance, while families embrace the journey free from burnout.
We understand that dance is just one part of a child’s journey right now, but our aim is to foster a positive mindset around goal-setting, motivation, habits, and discipline that endures for life. Take a peak into our balanced schedule that nurtures healthy, enthusiastic dancers.

When dancers are pushed into intensive training and frequent competitions, with the constant pursuit of the next achievement, they are often left with little time for play or other enriching interests. The pressure to acquire advanced skills before their bodies are fully prepared may appear as progress, but in reality, it is often too much too soon. Overuse injuries account for a significant proportion of dance-related injuries, leading to stress fractures, chronic fatigue & burnout and these can sometimes lead to long-term physical and psychological consequences.
It's a valid concern to balance what's truly necessary with what's recommended by the studio, especially in an industry where 'more' is often seen as 'better equipped.'
Just because a child can do something doesn’t mean they should.
Let’s protect their bodies with age appropriate load & hold space for their minds for fun & mistakes. -
VDS was built on evidence-based teaching strategies tailored for different learning styles, and guided by passionate teachers with over a decade of experience.
Here, we embrace a different pace—one that values balanced growth. We believe that steady, thoughtful progress leads to healthier, more sustainable development, helping children thrive both inside and outside the studio.
What does this mean for your child?
Your child will begin with a dual-genre foundation in Ballet and Jazz. We believe that limiting a child to just one style before age 12 can narrow future opportunities. By learning across genres, children become more versatile, confident, and adaptable—all while nurturing their love for dance.

Most Singapore studios, including VDS, welcome children from age 3–4 for foundational classes like pre-ballet. Jazz classes at VDS start for slightly older children, with structured programmes for kids from age 5 upward. The key is finding age-appropriate, play-based learning rather than pushing technique too early.

Group dance class fees for kids in Singapore typically range from $300–$500 per term (10–12 lessons), depending on the studio, location, and dance style. For example, foundation group classes at some studios run around $398 for 10 lessons, while others charge approximately $360 for a 12-lesson term. Community Club (CC) classes tend to be cheaper. Trial classes are usually offered at $20–$30, and some studios even offer free trials. Additional costs to budget for include dancewear ($50–$150), shoes, and annual performance/recital costumes ($80–$300).

Ballet is widely considered the best foundation for all dance styles, as it develops posture, coordination, flexibility, and musicality. VDS recommends starting with Ballet (from age 3–6) and progressing to Jazz (from around age 5+), which is exactly the approach their curriculum is built on. Both styles complement each other.
